About Felicity Cook

"Is a dynamic, sensitive practitioner". A quote from a participant at a weekend retreat. She has been working with the voice for 30 years, as teacher, singer, coach, conductor and therapist. Having trained in the 1980's and 90's to be a professional singer, she was acutely aware that to become a professional performer would have been a difficult step given her lack of self confidence. This started her on a quest of self discovery, reflection and inner work which has enriched her life and her career with others.
Felicity is an Integrative Psycho-Spiritual Energy Therapist with an expanding private practice of individual clients and workshops throughout the UK. (Please see the events page for ongoing availabilty for distant healing) She is also a qualified and highly experienced Vocal Coach and Voice Building facilitator. Felicity is currently Singing Consultant and teacher in residence for the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, Teacher of Voice at Trinity College Cambridge (and other members of the University of Cambridge) Vocal Coach for Universal's girl group, All Angels and is Head of Voice at The East West Sanctuary - Centre for Contemplative Enquiry and Healing in Budapest, Hungary. She is currently in the second year of study in Body Psychotherapy in Cambridge, UK
About The Voiced Bodymind
Bodymind
is a compound conjunction of body and mind, which, in scientific
disciplines, researchers have begun studying in order to move beyond
the dualist conceptions of body and mind that limit their medical
research.
Why The VOICED Bodymind? I have decided on this title as I hear sadness in the pelvis or joy in the heart - rigidity in the lower back and whether the client is on antidepressants or has had recent terrible shock causing a reaction as if a blow between the shoulder blades. The information the voice gives me regarding the body's manifestation of thoughts end emotions or the refusal to feel them is endless. As I hear, I see and as I see, I hear. Working with bodies and voices offers such insight into suffering, abuse, joy, grief, pleasure, flow, stagnation and many other things. Many years of "hearing" bodies and "seeing" voices has given birth to this sensitive work of The Voiced Bodymind, work where the recognition that every cell, every thought, every flow, every block is expressed in the qualities of the Human voice. It is provocative and controversial and spans a 30 year exploration into why you have the sound you have and why I have mine. This is not the final word, it is ongoing work.
Sound is vibration - voice is vibration. As I look at you and you look at me there is vibration. There is vibration in all things. We might sense it, feel it see it. The wind is there but we cannot see it - we do however see or feel the effects of it's vibrations.
Herbert Benson MD has pioneered bodymind research, focusing on stress and the "relaxation response" in medicine. In his research, the mind and body are one system, in which meditation plays a significant role in reducing stress responses (Benson 1972).
